Academics
Adelphi University offers those seeking a high value private school a “friendly and comfortable place to learn and grow.” Attendees describe their scholastic experience as “challenging and interesting,” and find resources like “great academic advising” and small class sizes to be highlights of the school. All of that coupled with professors who are “kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and helpful” make for “a uniquely positive” place to learn. It helps that those professors are also “easily accessible in office hours and by appointment.” Plus, they “bring real world discussions into the classroom,” keeping “students … actively engaged.” A few attendees report their experience with faculty to be “hit or miss,” but the majority are “quite likable and enthusiastic.” As far as majors go, out of the sixty options for undergrads, nursing students are especially proud of their program, which features innovative simulation labs and clinical work. Nursing faculty do an “amazing job preparing students for their futures” and “make you work, but it is worth it.”
Student Body
Adelphi undergrads describe their campus as “friendly, down to earth,” and “welcoming to newcomers.” Enrollees hail “mainly from Queens and Long Island,” but makes room for a “large population of international students.” That diversity of the student body, added to the great number of campus organizations, provides “many opportunities to meet people different from yourself.” So, even if solely for socializing purposes, “there is a healthy variety of people … for anyone to find a group of friends” as the “people here are very inclusive.” As one student recalls, “I was scared to come to a new school but just by the first day I met so many nice people.” With a simultaneously “very career driven” and “very social and well-rounded” group, you’ll find a student body aiming to “push one another for positive growth” at Adelphi.
Campus Life
Although most students are “dedicated to their education” they remember to “take time to enjoy themselves.” Adelphi is “largely a commuter school,” but it still manages to foster a “sense of community.” The beautiful college is “easy to get around” and boasts many places to “enjoy the view and hang out with friends.” While some say the school could use “more food options, better parking,” and updated dorms, they are satisfied with the number of opportunities available to them. Extracurricular options help to bring students together, whether that’s joining the Division II Adelphi Panthers, intramural sports teams, study group, or fundraisers. The school also boasts a “great and inclusive” Greek life, as well as a plethora of student clubs that showcase “different interests, majors, religions, cultures, ethnicities, and political views” and “bring out the diversity on campus.” And when students want to leave the scenic campus for anything from professional networking to nightlife, they can catch the train to New York City, just twenty-three miles away.
