Once you've decided Iona is the place for you, it's time to apply. Both freshmen and transfer students are encouraged to apply using the Common Application, which opens August 1.
Our application process is designed to look at the whole person. We will consider your application, grades and rigor of your coursework, recommendation letters, and extracurricular activities to see your overall personal performance. An optional admissions interview may also be considered.
We're test optional, meaning you can send us your SAT or ACT scores if you want to, but they're not required for any academic program, and will not impact your admission decision should you choose not to submit.
There is a $50 application fee that may be waived. Ask your admission counselor for details.

From their first to final year at Iona University, students are welcomed into an "inclusive community" that some say has "the feeling of home." Undergraduates appreciate that the school has "a lot of resources available" and "a huge network of support that will allow you to pursue your dreams." They also note that there are "opportunities for internships and job offers since the school works so hard to have companies come in and talk with the students," and that being "so close to the city" helps.
When it comes to academics, undergrads are quick to note that "Iona is renowned for their business school," which gets students early access to real-world companies, doing things like creating "an integrated marketing communication plan. This allowed us to take what we learn in the classroom and apply it to the real world." On the entrepreneurial side, students speak of "being able to formulate our own business with our group members and actually sell the products we obtained and made and gave the money collected to a charity of our choosing!"
Regardless of major, students say that "higher-level courses are more discussion/project based and intro classes more lecture-based." Fortunately, no matter the class, "most of the professors here are passionate about the subject material they are teaching, which makes the classes easy to attend." Additionally, they "do an excellent job at preparing students for their intended field of study and providing a meaningful learning experience." Perhaps most importantly, it's evident that they "really care about their students. They will contact you if you are doing well or if you aren't doing well. They want to see you succeed at Iona."

Outside of the classroom, Iona students can join over 80 campus clubs and leadership organizations spanning an array of interests, including 10 fraternities and sororities. Iona also has a robust club sports program, including a championship esports team, as well as a thriving performing arts program and wide range of community service opportunities.
Notably, Iona boasts 21 varsity sports with two more coming next year — men's lacrosse and women's acrobatics & tumbling. Iona competes in the NCAA Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Iona is renowned for its men's basketball program, which is New York's winningest team for over 25 years; and its men's cross country, MAAC Champions for 32 years straight.

At Iona University, "respect and dignity are always a priority," so it's no surprise that undergrads speak very highly of their "warm and welcoming" peers. They see each other as "passionate, involved" individuals who are quick to "flash you a smile or hold open the door for you." One student elaborates, "I've met some of my best friends through asking a friendly face for help in many different areas at Iona. You are rarely judged and people genuinely want what's best for you." As another puts it, "The second I walked onto campus everyone made me feel like I belonged." Enrollees also note that the Catholic university attracts a "diverse range of students from different religious backgrounds" and "a lot of people from all over the world. [It] is nice to know that I can always learn something new about a different country." To those at Iona, the most important factor is how they join together to "care about their community and making a difference in the world." Beliefs like that are what lead some students to say their already impressive peers "are going to go far beyond what they expected."

Iona's unique locations offer the best of both worlds. Iona's beautiful 45-acre campus in New Rochelle, N.Y., is only two miles from the Long Island Sound and 20 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. In addition, Iona's new second campus in Bronxville, which is just three miles from its main campus in New Rochelle, is now home to the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences. The new campus also adds additional athletic fields and performance spaces for student activities. Both the New Rochelle and Bronxville campuses provide a comfortable, intimate learning environment and are less than half an hour from the heart of New York City. Easy Metro-North train access to Manhattan with shuttle service to and from campus is also available.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Iona University is a school on the rise and its facilities reflect its success. Most recently, Iona expanded to a second campus in nearby Bronxville, N.Y., which added additional learning spaces as well as athletic facilities to the University footprint. The campus is primarily home to the New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences. The school's new flagship building — named The Kelly Center for Health Sciences — features 32,000 square feet of the most modern classrooms, simulation labs and amenities across three floors.
On its New Rochelle campus, meanwhile, Iona has also opened the new "Murphy Green," a vibrant green space in the heart of campus. Complete with benches, trees, stone walkways and a terrace area, the 30,000-square-foot space has quickly become the center of campus events, outdoor performances, classes and many other academic and recreational activities.
In 2020, Iona also cut the ribbon on a dramatically renovated and renamed LaPenta School of Business. Designed with an iconic blend of the original, brick facade and a sleek, glass addition, the new LaPenta School of Business doubled the building's academic space to more than 68,000 square feet, including modern classrooms and an expanded LaPenta-Lynch Trading Floor with 27 desktop computers, 16 Bloomberg Terminals and a live, wrap-around stock ticker.
In 2019, the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation opened its brand new, 3,800-square-foot coworking and learning space. Founded in 2017, the Hynes Institute ensures that students develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed to create, innovate and lead in a global economy. In addition to hosting an annual business competition and running a business incubator on campus, the Hynes Institute also offers a Makerspace Experience where students can tinker, design, create and build prototypes for new ideas as they strive to solve real-world challenges. The Hynes Athletics Center was also dramatically upgraded in 2019 to enhance the game experience for both student-athletes and fans. There is seating around all four sides of the court, state-of-the-art LED scoreboards, improved lighting and sound, a new playing surface, and additional support for Iona's ESPN School Productions efforts.
Off-Campus Opportunities
The City of New Rochelle offers a safe, engaging and welcoming community with plenty to do, including theaters, parks, beaches, dining, nightlife and cultural activities. Students can also enjoy the picturesque Village of Bronxville, where a variety of coffee shops, farmer's markets and much more await. Plus, the Metro-North train is easily accessible to take a short ride to the heart of Manhattan. With New York City less than half an hour away, students have unlimited options for career development and internship opportunities.

There's plenty of homework at Iona University, so on both the academic and recreational side, Iona looks to make sure "there is never a boring or dull moment here." You might see this play out in study spaces like the library's "Harry Potter themed room," or the school's daily activity hour, a dedicated period from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. that "allows students to take a break from school work, meet new people, and join in on an extracurricular activity." In general, student engagement services offer many clubs and programs-everything from rugby to criminal justice-that are not only "exciting and interactive [but that] bring the student body closer together." For those professionally motivated, students say of clubs in accounting and finance: "I love how they create opportunities...to network with alumni and participate in interesting career chats." And for those looking for a Greek community, there are "fun events" like "Greek week where there's kickball and lip sync [performances]." Of course, even with all these activities, students sometimes need a change of scenery. That's where they can capitalize on the university's "proximity to NYC to spend time in Manhattan to experience the Big Apple nightlife and cultural outlets."
