The St. Thomas main campus is located just off the banks of the Mississippi River in beautiful St. Paul. Within minutes of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the Amtrak train depot and major freeways, St. Thomas is easily accessible from any location.
Driving Instructions to Campus
From East I-94 (from Minneapolis): Take I-94 east to the Cretin/Vandalia exit. Go right (south) on Cretin Avenue approximately one mile. Turn left at the Grand Avenue stoplight. Go one short block and watch for Finn Street. Immediately after Finn, turn left into Parking Lot L.
From West I-94 (from St. Paul): Take I-94 west to the Cretin/Vandalia exit. Go left (south) on Cretin Avenue approximately one mile. Turn left at the Grand Avenue stoplight. Go one short block and watch for Finn Street. Immediately after Finn, turn left into Parking Lot L.
From East I-494 (from the airport): Take I-494 east to Highway 5. Take Highway 5 east and exit at Shepard Road/Ecumbe. There will be a fork in the road. Veer left on Edgecumbe. At the second stoplight, turn left on St. Paul Avenue. In approximately 3/4 mile, St. Paul Avenue becomes Cleveland Avenue. Stay on Cleveland for approximatel two miles. Turn left on Grand Avenue. Watch for Parking Lot L on the right-hand side, just before Finn Street. If you reach Finn Street, you've gone too far.
North I-35(from Iowa): When I-35 splits into 35E and 35W, follow 35E. Take 35E north to the Randolph exit. Make a left on Randolph (crossing over 35E) and follow Randolph for approximately two miles to Cleveland Avenue. Make a right on Cleveland Avenue and go approximately 1.5 miles to Grand Avenue. Turn left on Grand. Watch for Parking Lot L on the right-hand side, just before Finn Street. If you reach Finn Street, you've gone to far.
South I-35 (from Duluth): When I35 splits into 35E and 35W, follow 35E. Take 35E to Exit I-94 going west. Take I-94 west to the Cretin/Vandalia exit. The Catholic institution "[holds] a high standard of academic excellence," and in turn, "[offers a] myriad of resources for each student to take advantage of." Students have the opportunity to participate in honors classes that are "more discussion-based." Many students appreciate the chances to participate in non-traditional learning, citing activities such as "going" down to the Mississippi River to do research for geology class" or "attending the Nobel Peace Prize Conference," and "listening in on court cases."
Professors have the ability to "make or break the experience," and many faculty members prioritize "intellectual curiosity" and "get excited when you want to dive deeper into course material outside of the classroom." The modest student-to-faculty ratio makes it "easy to connect in the classroom, which then makes it easier to succeed in a class." Our St. Paul campus borders the Mississippi River and miles of trails connect you to Minneapolis' famous chain of lakes. In addition, with 17 Fortune 500 companies headquartered here, you'll have access to ample internship and job opportunities.

The greatest strengths of St. Thomas would be [its] dedication to making students feel at home through an "impactful focus on building community" among undergrads. As one transfer student puts it, "As soon as I moved in I felt like I found my home." In their free time, St. Thomas enrollees-affectionately known as "Tommies"-can be found working out at the gym, exploring "neighborhood bars and restaurants" and "[taking] advantage of our numerous coffee shops on campus and off." The school "offers free transportation to locations all around the Twin Cities," making it easy to get off campus even without access to a car. In the warmer months, people leverage the "many open grassy areas that allow students to hang out, hammock, play causal games, and even study," and they're "able to rent out yard games and other activity supplies either at a low cost or for free." If organized fun is more your style, "There are a lot of school-sponsored events" featuring "free goodies around campus (such as crafts, T-shirts, [and] food)." Truly, "You'd have to be actively trying to be bored" at St. Thomas.
