Keys or keyless entry devices may not be given to a guest for any reason. HRE staff may require a guest to leave if their behavior is not in accordance with University of Utah and HRE policies. HRE reserves the right to determine if the number of guests per resident is disruptive and may ask all or some guests to vacate. If the guest has a contract with HRE they will be accountable for their actions, otherwise, the host will be held accountable for the actions or behaviors. A resident may not host an overnight guest for more than three (3) consecutive nights. In total and including all approved guests, a resident may not host an overnight guest more than ten (10) nights a semester. For the safety of our community, registered sex offenders are not eligible as overnight guests. For overnight guests under the age of 18 years old, parental/guardian notification is included as part of the pre-registration process.

Types of Transportation Available to Campus
The Salt Lake City International Airport is about 10 miles from campus. Shuttle service, taxi service, rental cars, and TRAX (light rail)and bus system (UTA) are available for travel around the city and to campus. The University of Utah has an agreement with the UTA that provides our students, faculty and staff access to TRAX, UTA buses and Frontrunner trains for free with their student/employee ID Badge.
Driving Instructions to Campus
1. From the I-80 Eastbound/ Salt Lake International Airport
Take I-80 East approximately 1.5 miles to the North Temple exit. Follow North Temple approximately 3 miles to State Street (one block beyond the Mormon Temple). Turn right on State Street, and go south 5 blocks to 400 South. Turn left, proceeding east on 400 South for approximately 1.5 miles until you reach the University of Utah campus.
2. From I-15 Northbound
Take the eastbound 600 South exit. At State Street turn left, proceeding 2 blocks north until you reach 400 South. Turn right, proceeding east on 400 South for approximately 2 miles until you reach the University of Utah campus.
3. From I-15 Southbound
Take the eastbound 600 North exit. At 300 West turn right, proceeding approximately 1.5 miles south until you reach 400 South. Turn left, proceeding east on 400 South for approximately 2 miles until you reach the University of Utah campus.
4. From I-80 Westbound (Park City)
Exit I-80 at Foothill Drive (University of Utah exit). Continue north on Foothill Drive approximately 3 miles until your reach the University of Utah campus.

The B.S. in Games (BSG) degree is intended specifically for students who aspire to hold careers within the professional games industry or a related field, such as simulation, edutainment, or visualization, and is designed to prepare our students to compete in an increasingly complex industry. The BSG prepares students with skills applicable to the development of entertainment software, games-based learning environments for K-12 students, professional task-training tools, serious games for health, and scientific collaboration or other contexts addressing compelling societal needs. This degree provides a technical grounding in mathematics and computational skills, core knowledge in the design and production of digital playable experiences, and specialization options that prepare students for technical supervision, tools development and overall game design.
The B.S. in Computer Science, Entertainment Arts and Engineering emphasis is offered in conjunction with the School of Computing, and a key characteristic of the program is its interdisciplinary nature. As the digital entertainment industry continuously grows, employers are focusing on students who understand both sides of the industry, whether it is computer science students with additional game arts skills, game artists with computing skills, or game producers with varying specializations. This EAE specialization offers cutting edge courses designed for undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers as video game engineers and expressing themselves using digital media, including courses covering video game design and development, 3D animation, and computer-generated special effects, in addition to the full Computer Science curriculum.

Nestled amid Salt Lake City's snowcapped mountains, the University of Utah is a large public school that offers extensive academic programs, ample research opportunities, and a surprisingly student-friendly atmosphere. No matter what your interests, you'll find like minds at The U. "I have studied everything from [the] Tai Chi/Yoga movement and stage combat to differential equations and linear algebra," says a junior. "The one thing that has remained consistent throughout is the appreciation and dedication the people have for the topic they are involved in." The U is a research university that actually takes teaching seriously, and "every teacher...shows incredible knowledge in their area, as well as personality and wit." "Classes are informative, challenging, and genuinely enjoyable." As is the case in many larger universities, students note that many "general education courses are taught by grad students," whose teaching abilities can range from great to below average. "Ninety percent of my professors are fantastic; the ones that aren't are usually grad students," explains a junior. On this large campus, students have little contact with the school's administration and "there's definitely no hand-holding at The U. If you're unsure of your major or career plans, it's easy to slip through the cracks." However, students assure us, "The administration puts student interests first whenever possible with a focus on keeping tuition low, creating a diverse environment, and providing opportunities and experience in order to prepare students to be productive citizens."

Located in Salt Lake City, The U has "plenty of social niches to fall into, and none of them are rigidly exclusive." One student notes that part of the student body is "the typical Utah Mormon, and [the rest] is a mix of everything. The two [groups] usually stay separate but they get along." University of Utah students agree that "there is more diversity here than in any other part of the state." However, out-of-state students are not as common, and "those of us not from Utah are definitely in the minority." While there are a number of residential students, a very large percentage of students also choose to commute to school while living with their parents or family. In addition, "there are a lot of older students and a lot of married students." Academically, however, U undergraduates are "independent, smart, and come to class ready to discuss ideas."

The University of Utah is set on the eastern edge of Salt Lake City. Campus is just minutes away from a vibrant downtown – the epicenter of SLC's restaurants, theaters, pubs, and civic events – and burgeoning neighborhoods, like the coffee-and movie-art-house hub, 9th and 9th district.
Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, is home to about 190,000 residents, and covers 84,900 square miles, making it the 11th largest state in the U.S. There are 21 national parks and monuments in the state, including Zion National Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Arches National Park and the Golden Spike National Historic Site. Salt Lake is about a 6 hour drive from Las Vegas; 5 hours from Yellowstone National Park; and 6 hours from the Grand Canyon.
The city is home to a large international airport (the western most hub of Delta Airlines), and is easily accessed by multiple freeways. The University of Utah sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountain range, which – together with the rest of the Utah mountains – are on average the tallest in the United States, enjoying an average snowfall of 500 inches per year.

We are constantly improving our students learning spaces by providing access to a motion capture lab, games user research lab, streaming studio, eSports team practice facilities, classrooms equipped with Cintiq tablets at each work station, a 3D scan lab and more. The University of Utah campus has many additional resources to offer through student groups and clubs, recreation, community engagement and housing.

While a large percentage of the undergraduate community at the University of Utah commutes to campus, there are still plenty of activities for the school's 4,000 resident students. There are many people "active in politics, environmental issues, and international issues," and, after hours, "the school holds different events throughout the year, such as Crimson Nights that feature activities such as bowling, crafts, games, food, and music." Socially, "Greek life is not as large as at other schools but is definitely a lot of fun and the best way to get to know more people your age." In addition, "during football season there are great tailgate parties with friends, drinks, and food." Right off campus, there are a range of great restaurants, and "the nightlife is hard to keep up with." There's always something good going on-whether it's at the bars and clubs downtown, or at small music venues." For outdoorsy types, The U is a paradise. "We have all four seasons and some of the best outdoors in the nation," explains one student. "Killer snow, amazing hills, mountains, lakes, and streams." In this natural wonderland, "hiking, biking, boating, snow-skiing, and snowboarding are just a few of the hundreds of activities available to students."
