Academics

A small technical design and engineering college, Wentworth Institute of Technology is located on a campus in the middle of Boston, which means students are "able to interact with local professionals furthering our educational experience." Wentworth is highly career focused, and "shapes young professionals who have the tools and knowledge to tackle industry right out of class." Wentworth is "all about preparing you to immediately step into the working world with an extremely good job," according to one student. In fact, all students complete a minimum of two semesters of cooperative learning. Professors at Wentworth "don't just teach from the books; they also teach from their real live experiences." These accessible instructors are willing to help outside the classroom during their office hours or "will recommend The Learning Center to go to for help." The range in quality of professors is "pretty large here," and although poor professors are weeded out, "some bad eggs are bound to get through." Wentworth "does a good job of encouraging students to intermingle with other majors/programs." Its "very collaborative student body" works on a lot of "challenging interdisciplinary projects" across the school, which generally contributes to "a lot of teamwork and coordination between the student on everything from class projects, to studying, to organizing events."

Student Body

The Wentworth student body "isn't extremely tight knit," but, students say, "it is an interesting mix." As WIT is a small school with relatively few majors ("and those curriculums being very intense"), seeing people outside one's major "is very rare"; however, "inside the different majors is a very tight, very open group of friends." The student population as a whole is "very motivated and work-oriented," and you'll find many different personalities that "will vary between the athletic type to the artistic type in the design major.. This mostly male group of students are "direct in what they want to do in life" and came to Wentworth "knowing what major they're in and what their interests are." There are a lot of "highly intelligent individuals" on campus that are "quirky and sometimes odd, but have the ability to someday change the world."

Campus Life

A large portion of a Wentworth student's time is devoted to academics, but most free days can easily be spent exploring Boston, as "there is never really a shortage of things to do since we are right in the heart of the city." Generally, students are "involved in gaming in some way" and "gaming is widely accepted throughout campus." Athletics and social interaction are "not a major priority given the commitment to academic success is so high here." During down time, there are many spots on campus to relax and hang out with friends, such as "the Flanagan Campus Center or the hammocks on the quad (during warm weather)." The summer is "the best time to get out," otherwise the campus "always has events every weekend as well." One nice thing that the school does is devote an entire section of the campus center for commuters to hang out, where "there is a pool table, couches, and TVs for students."
