Undergraduate preparation must include: Biology with lab (1 year); Inorganic Chemistry with lab (1 year); Organic Chemistry with lab (1 semester); additional upper-level Chemistry (1 semester); Physics with lab (1 year); and English (1 year). Transcripts should have grades; Pass/Fail courses are not advised. The MCAT is required and must be no more than three years old.

In the past, the majority of graduates have selected specialized fields. As part of their Generalist Initiative, the Medical College encourages students to explore primary care. The goal of the Initiative is for at least half of the graduates to enter residencies in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics. Students may remain at the Medical College of Georgia for their post-graduate study while others enter programs elsewhere in the state and the nation.
