Career Experience

I have worked as a 1-on-1 English tutor for 5 years, and I also have 1 year of experience teaching in a classroom setting. My focus has been teaching English 101 and equivalents for first-year college students. I have also helped students in different classes which may assign essays, though, including sociology, psychology and history. I also have experience helping ESL-level students, particularly Spanish speakers, with sentence structure and paragraph writing.

I Love Tutoring Because

I like helping people discover that they themselves can overcome hurdles. Specifically when it comes to writing, I love when students figure out how they can apply a writing idea or concept, or a tool such as an essay template, and then have a "got it" moment. They are capable of writing as well as anyone else, but each person needs a different sort of push to make them realize it. I love sitting or chatting with students to figure out what that push is, whether it's an expansion of vocabulary, an outline, or an explanation of writing steps.
